A key role in our Bet Tribe, as Tech Lead you be leading a multi-disciplinary squad of highly skilled individuals in all matters technical and peering with the Product Owner to deliver the best experience to SB&G customers. Promos and Bet Placement Squad For any ecommerce website, the Basket and Checkout processes are critical; At Sky Bet, these are our "Betslip" and "Placement" components, and they have to withstand anywhere up to 16,000 bet placements a minute, be available 24/7 and able to respond to the traffic profile coming through at any time within that. Promos & Bet Placement is the squad charged with delivering this experience for our customers. It is a multi-disciplinary squad with engineering, product & UX co-located to work together on innovatively solving the challenges that come with developing this capability at one of the largest bookmakers in the UK. How you'll do it Be the hands-on technical authority for your squad; Advocate and drive best practices and technical improvements in the squad; Encourage squad "champions" for different areas of expertise like performance testing and others; Coach other squad members from a technical perspective, increasing their expertise; Be a champion for technical ownership and operational readiness within the squad and tribe; Work with the Engineering Manager to recruit the best engineers for your team; Engage with product teams on forward planning and drive team focus on delivery goals and value; Lead by example on transparent communication, ensuring that business expectations are always set realistically; Champion, maintain and uphold the SDLC, and drive improvements to working practices; Lead on inceptions and elaboration of work; Contribute to technical designs, roadmap planning, defining and documenting software architecture for your services. How we work Our engineers work closely with colleagues in all positions, so a high level of interpersonal skill is important to us. We are not building a monolithic Enterprise app - think micro-services and a lean approach with quick running tests and deployment. This should be something you are passionate about, too. You will need to demonstrate good levels of skill in some of the following: React, PHP, Node, Chef; and be comfortable with techniques such as message queues, data stores and know what makes a good RESTful API, as examples. Data features heavily and you should appreciate there are many storage patterns, knowing the strengths and weaknesses when compared to traditional relational databases. We expect candidates to be comfortable working in a Linux environment. We value previous experience developing for high-demand & high-availability environments. Our '10% time' policy means Friday afternoons are your time to remain at the top of your game. We will consider remote working (with at least 50% of time being in the base office), part-time working and flexible hours to accommodate your personal circumstances, providing we can meet our business needs.
